Happy 4 Weeks Owen!

Brock has been a major help this week by holding Owen while I get things done!
Brotherly bonding!
I know it's not until Monday but we had a 1 month photo shoot!
 A big yawn!
I choose a white onesie, so each month we can check out Owen's changes!
 A sleepy baby!
You would think at 4 weeks we would have Mr. Owen figured out! Truth is WE DON'T, NOT EVEN CLOSE! We have discovered this week due to having some company and me not nursing in public, we gave Owen a frozen breastmilk bottle, it was 3 1/2 ounces. He drank all of it and typically he was only taking 2 ounces. So we thought to ourselves possibly his grumpiness is due to not being fed enough. I put a call in to Dr. Baker and he said go ahead and supplement with formula. Voila......he is now happy! He is able to be put down, he is sleeping better at night (more on this in a bit), he has a full belly. Each day, we have only given him typically 2-4 ounces total of formula. Usually about a 1/2 ounce after nursing. I do still nurse him each and every time then we will make a bottle for after. That way most of his nutrition is from breast milk. SO far this is working!!! Now as for sleeping, Owen has been doing this in his carseat in our bedroom. Unfortunately, he doesn't sleep in the crib well unless on his belly and I'm just to afraid to leave him that way overnight. So the house hold is happy as everyone is getting sleep. He typically eats around 11-12 then is down until 3-4 then eats just a tiny bit around 6 am and goes back to sleep. So all in all not to bad. Owen's visitors this week were, a visit to Pappy's and Mamal's, a visit to District Justice Greg Johnson and his wife Cheryl, Uncle Brandon and Aunt Maddie came over, a trip to tball practice, and Keith's cousin Cindy. It's so hard to believe Baby Owen is 4 weeks old today and 1 month old on Monday. The time is truly going way too fast. Owen has outgrown 3 of his newborn outfits :( 0-3 are still big but not for long. Owen still seems to like, his bath, the car (as long as it's moving), his vibrating bouncer, (NO SWING), and being outside. He loves to nurse and be held by Keith and I. He is really starting to really focus and stare at whoever is holding and occasionally I have caught him looking around in his bouncer. He has also made a few cooing sounds. He is such a pleasure, I just wish we could completely get him figured out so he stays happy! Enjoy his photos!!

Late night snoozing!

I love love love this picture!
This was taken Tuesday night, may even have technically been Wednesday am. Poor Keith, said geez, Owen is going to think I don't do anything but sleep. I said that's okay, he'll also think he doesn't have a mother because I'm never in any photos!

Uncle Brandon

Owen sure did enjoy Brandon being silly and holding him. No fussing at all! Brandon and Maddie came to visit Tuesday evening and Brandon held Owen most of the time!

We found something that works!

Owen has been quite the grouchy pants lately. It seems he is just plain old fussy!
Feeling the vibrations of the bouncer!
A content little boy!

Tubby Time

Owen had a diaper blow out, since he is going to Pappy and Mamals for his first time alone for a little this evening (YES...Keith and I are going to a uninterrupted dinner alone at our favorite restaurant TJ Rockwell's) I decided to try out the bath tub again with Owen.

 Relaxing with his foot out!
 Owen loves it!
When I got him out! No screaming this time!
Getting sleepy, mommy rocked him for a bit before getting dressed.
The ending result of tubby time!

*Sleep disclosure-----> I am fully aware and abide by back to sleep for Owen. However, since back to sleep was instituted babies do not get much tummy time now. So while I am up doing things around the house, I lay Owen on his belly and peek in on him OFTEN! So no harm done*

A happier baby!

This afternoon I went to Target in search of a different pacifier for Owen. He was using the green one from the hospital, however, he wanted it but couldn't keep it in his mouth. I picked up the Tommy Tipper pacifier, which is also the brand of bottle we use. Take a look for yourself.....

Pardon the dark, he was sleeping.
This is a photo of a happy, sleeping baby enjoying his paci. If this is what makes this baby this content then he may have a paci anyday......until he is no older than 2 of course! Then again, if he is only using it to sleep, he can have it anytime!!! Mom and Dad are softees!

Happy 3 Weeks Owen

Here is a look at some of the things we've been up to this week!

 Tummy Time!
 For almost 25 min!
Owen loves to be on his belly!

 Playtime with Daddy!
Owen not to sure what to think!
Momma's precious boy, happy and content after a feeding!
Owen asleep after keeping Keith awake ALL NIGHT LONG!
A happy boy this morning!

Here we are, 3 weeks old! I swear the time is flying faster and faster. This week we visited Pappy Dave, Mamal Becki, Mykenzie, Uncle Jake, Nana, Pap, Grandma Kay, and Pap Jerry. We also had another milestone as mommy started back to work. Life is a bit hectic right now with work for Keith and I, Brock's baseball practice, and trying to get Owen on a schedule. He is on a schedule, just not one we prefer! This lovely, little boy is up almost every night in the middle of the night, ALL NIGHT LONG! Thankfully, we are taking shifts through the night, Keith tends to nap in the evening so I'll do the 10-12 with Owen, then Keith takes over around 2-5 AM, from there I take over. That way we are getting some sleep. All I can say is thank goodness for the Medela breast pump, which is totally making all of this possible! Owen is now wearing size 1 diapers. I think he may still fit in Newborns, but the Huggies Organic Brand he outgrew, I literally have a ton of size 1s and didn't feel like going out and buying newborns. Owen also went to Brock's baseball practice this week! We discovered he likes to be outside, ride in cars, take baths, and be held. Owen is held most of the day as he just doesn't like when he is put down. I did have a chance to try out the carrier twice this week, it helps but I don't find it super comfortable. I did manage to get some household chores done though. All in all just another week enjoying baby Owen. We, contrary to most of our elder relatives, enjoy the fact that Owen prefers to be held. After in all, in just a short amount of time, this little baby will grow and be a mobile little boy, that we will be dying to hold and cuddle like we do now. So if nothing gets done, then that is the way it is going to be!
Happy 3 weeks old dear Owen!

My status

Just thought I would share, this was my facebook (Colby's) status today.....
Baby Owen is the happiest when his momma or daddy are holding him. Momma is happiest too, unfortunately Brock, Winston , my house, my belly, and my hygiene do not agree. — with Keith Nye

AND I WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY!

Owen gets a bath!

We decided, tonight since Owen was wide awake and happy and 18 days old, we should give him a bath! We weren't sure what to expect, little did we know we have a little water baby on our hands!
Right when we placed him in the water.
 Just enjoying himself!
 Nearly 15 min later!
And the part that his momma told him nobody likes, getting out and being cold. Unfortunately, he screamed until he was dressed and picked up! I can't wait to have tubby time again, next time Owen is fussy, we will be trying a bath to soothe him! I hope everyone enjoys him as much as we do!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

 Don't take my picture Mom!
Attempt 2, better!

Attempt 3, after which I gave up. Owen just wasn't into it! We celebrated St. Patrick's Day by going to Kohl's (Owen and Keith waited in the car), Going to Target for our baby carrier (so excited to try this out), and going to best buy to purchase a new tv for our bedroom! What a perfect way to spend a first holiday with Owen.....TOGETHER! Every year, for Brock before going to bed I tip over chairs, make green foot prints, sprinkle the house with gold coins, etc. This year, Brock was at his dad's so I purchased Gold Coins as I always do and just called and told him that the Leprechaun came and trashed our house again. Brock exclaimed, REALLY?! Can't wait to do the same for Baby Owen! Happy St. Patrick's Day Owen!

Happy 2 Weeks Owen

As you can see, Keith and Owen are still at it with their naps together. This week was a bit more challenging as I went at it alone during the day. Between Brock, Owen, and Winston I am trying different things each day to form a schedule. We are making progress, but still need some work. Hey it's only been a week right! In the last week, we discovered the secret to keeping Owen dry and not peeing through everything and only had 2 soak through everything this week instead of 2 times + daily. Owen's visitors this week were Pap Jerry, Grandma Kay, Aunt Jordan, Jason, Haley, Cambria, Pappy Dave, Mamal Becki, Grandma Chrissy, Aunt Maddie, Uncle Brandon, Aunt Marsha, and Diane. We also made a very special trip to Keith's work on Thursday. Unfortunately, Keith was working and didn't know we stopped. While at Keith's work, Keith's boss' wife, Nancy and her mother came over as well to visit. It's safe to say all of the ladies there love you as well! Owen is eating during the day about every 2 hours and approximately every 4 at night, so all in all pretty well. Nothing to complain about. Keith typically handles one of the night feedings, so mom gets plenty of sleep! We have also discovered our precious Owen has fought some gas this week and Thursday into Friday was a horrible day. Most of Friday, Owen did nothing but SCREAM! I felt so bad, there just didn't seem to be anything I could do for him. After purchasing some Mylicon, we now have a happy baby.
I didn't get many pictures this week, like I mentioned above, I struggled this week with free time! Here was one of Owen enjoying some time in his room listening to nursery tunes, while Momma contended with Brock. We went out last evening and purchased a baby carrier, for me to wear, hopefully this works a bit. Because, I really just can't seem to put him down!
Happy 2 weeks to my dear Owen!

Happy 1 week Owen

My dear Owen, I can't believe it's been 1 week with you so far. The love we have for you feels like it's been an eternity, yet again new enough that it's hard to believe it's been 1 week. You are such a blessing to everyone that has come in contact with you. You've had a busy week with visitors such as Pappy Dave, Mamal Becki, Uncle Jake, Mykenzie, Cousin Cambria, Grandma Shawn, Sydney, Aunt Nikki, Cheryl from Daddy's work, Grandma Kay, Pap Jerry, Aunt Marsha, Diane, Aunt Maddie, Uncle Brandon, Mommy's cousin Sue, Scott, Brittany, Cadence, Grace, Nana, Pap, and finally Daddy's cousin Penny. That was just this week!
We have learned the hard way, several several times, that you pee through everything! This picture was taken Wednesday morning, you were soaked! Your pleasant demeanor makes up for all of the laundry you have dad and I staying busy doing! You sleep all of the time and only really stay awake for about 10 min. But when you are awake you seem to enjoy just looking around taking in all of your surroundings.

All in all, we survived our first week together. Mom, Dad, Brother Brock, and Baby Owen. I'm not sure how Dad is going to do it next week when he goes back to work. He has very much enjoyed taking over a week off to be with you. You are nursing very well and beginning to develop a routine of every 2-3 hours. Mommy has been able to make a couple of bottles for daddy to feed you and he has been doing so in the middle of the night when you get up. You're a very, very, pleasant baby but during the hours of 11-4 AM you are a bit restless. I say restless, because you don't scream, you are fairly quiet, it's more of a I need held and comforted type of thing. Other than visitors, eating, sleeping, there is not much to report. I can't say it enough how perfect he is and what a blessing he has been and will continue to be!

Owen and Daddy

At any given moment this is how you can find Keith and Owen

Thursday's Pediatrician Visit

We took Owen back to the drs and he is now 6 pounds 14 oz so he is growing literally, by the day! His jaundice level came down and is 13.1 which means it no longer is an issue. So we return in 1 week to check weight again and that's just because of him being a breastfed baby, we don't know how much he is taking in. He is doing so great at nursing and we even have Keith feeding him a bottle a day. Usually in the middle of the night. It is showing just how great he is, the dr couldn't believe how much he gained in just two short days!

Tuesday's Pediatrician Visit

Owen met Dr. Baker for the first time on Tuesday. He weighed in 6 pounds 9 ounces and his jaundice level was 14.4. They don't like to see anything over 18. So we need to go back Thursday to check things again and go from there. Dr. Baker said he doesn't think the jaundice levels will rise. You should see the whites of his eyes though, they are so yellow! Poor little guy. Dr. Baker said besides the weight and jaundice he is absolutely perfect, which of course we as his parents already knew!

Going Home

On Sunday, March 4 2012 we got the okay to go home! Baby Owen needs to follow up with the pediatrician on Tuesday due to some jaundice and weight loss. When he was weighed Saturday into Sunday he was down to 6 pounds 6 ounces. We will update about our visit then.

Meeting Mommy and Daddy

Owen's Birth Story

We arrived at the hospital Friday, March 2nd 2012 at 8:05 AM. I decided to freak out and cry and panic and just be emotional for nearly 2 1/2 hours before actually getting any type of intervention to speed things along. Dr. Benton came in and decided to start oxytocin to get my cervix to change. So the nurse started an iv and a few minutes later the oxytocin was started. Not even 20 min later I was starting to cramp so they checked me. I was 6 cm already. Dr. Benton decided it was then time to break my water. About 20 min after her breaking my water, I began to literally beg for the epidural. I was growing more and more uncomfortable by the second and just couldn't handle the intensity anymore. The fabulous gentleman came in to do the epidural and I was very uncomfortable during the whole process. At this time is when Maddie arrived to be present during birth. As soon as they were finished doing the epidural I begged for Dr. Benton to come check me, knowing something wasn't quite right. Sure enough, I was 10 cms and ready to push. She left to get the push tray and quickly returned. Little did we know an hour later Mr. Owen would finally arrive. Yes, it took over an hour of pushing because he was sunny side up and just couldn't seem to get himself all of the way out. During the pushing, his heart rate would plummet and just when they started to worry, and threatened him with the vacumn extraction out he came. Owen Keith Nye arrived at 1:40 PM weighing 7 pounds 5.1 ounces 20 inches long.

Before we left for the hospital.
